From under $50 last year, it has surged past $1200, with a cumulative increase of over 20 times, peaking near $1250 on September 7. Even more dramatic, shorts have been forced to stop loss repeatedly, with tens of millions of dollars in short positions liquidated. The higher the price rises, the more shorts have to buy, and the more they buy, the higher the price climbs—a classic positive feedback loop.

ZEC is deze keer niet zomaar een gewone stijging, het is een werkelijk epische short squeeze.
Van minder dan 50 dollar vorig jaar tot boven de 1200 dollar, een totale stijging van meer dan 20 keer, met op 7 september een piek rond de 1250 dollar. Wat nog opvallender is, is dat shorts gedwongen werden om hun posities te sluiten, met tientallen miljoenen dollars aan shortposities die werden geliquideerd. Hoe hoger de prijs steeg, hoe meer shorts moesten kopen, en hoe meer ze kochten, hoe hoger de prijs werd – een typisch positief feedbackmechanisme.
Maar juist hier ligt nu het grootste gevaar.
De ETF heeft inderdaad een nieuwe kapitaalinstroom voor ZEC gebracht. Sinds de lancering van Grayscale ZCSH op 25 augustus is er continu geld binnengekomen, en begin september was de netto-instroom al meer dan 34,4 miljoen dollar, terwijl het fondsvermogen snel groeide.
Dus deze rally kan niet simpelweg worden afgedaan als "pure speculatie".
Maar trek ook niet direct een gelijkteken tussen ETF-geld en fundamentele verbetering.
De grootste tegenstelling voor ZEC is nu dat de prijs te snel is gestegen; het verhaal en het kapitaal wisselen elkaar af, maar de waardering ligt ver boven de lange termijn gemiddelden. Een hoge RSI en afvlakking van korte termijn technische indicatoren betekenen dat een verdere short squeeze mogelijk is, maar met elke stap omhoog neemt ook de druk om winst te nemen toe.
Ik denk dat het nu niet zozeer gaat om of de prijs nog verder kan stijgen, maar om wie de laatste stokje overneemt nadat de shorts eruit zijn gedrukt.
1200 dollar is inmiddels van een psychologische grens veranderd in een korte termijn scheidslijn tussen bulls en bears. Blijft de prijs boven dit niveau, dan betekent dat dat de markt nog bezig is met het ontdekken van een nieuwe prijs; zakt de prijs eronder, dan moet men oppassen dat deze short squeeze niet in een terugvalfase komt.
