The key divide in AI policy may be less about speed than who gets to judge safety. OpenAI's talks with Anthropic and Google DeepMind on third-party evaluation suggest a possible bridge between voluntary pledges and mandatory oversight.
My read: if lawmakers adopt that model, the scope and independence of evaluations would matter more than the number of firms at the table.
